Plug and Play

Does plug & play work for a power plant?

Our vision for you!

Every power plant always needs one thing first: space. Then it needs a connection line. The space should be as small as possible and the connecting cable as short as possible, because long cables are expensive and bring losses. And then it should supply energy all the time – and ideally be flexible in use. Base load capable and peak load capable. It must not be dangerous, emit exhaust fumes and radiation, and not bother anyone with noise.

As if that were not enough, it is the desire that it be inexpensive and, of course, produce the electricity independently of fossil fuels.
We, the team of BULLENERGY, sat down together and thought about how to turn this idea into reality. And we have continued to think. How can you build your power plant quickly, easily and inexpensively?

A power plant made from standard building blocks

When you talk about a plug & play power plant, it means:

  • configure,
  • order
  • deliver,
  • connect
  • turn on

To make this possible, a concept is required that is part of the current infrastructure. The answer to this is provided by the ISO 668 standard. It defines today’s common sea freight containers that travel all over the world’s oceans, but also by rail road. They are containers that allow easy and fast loading, transportation, storage and unloading of goods. The width is 8 feet throughout, and the height is 8 feet, 6 inches. Common lengths for containers are 40 feet or 20 feet or 10 feet. And it is precisely into these containers that we plan to install our power plant units.

Such a power plant container should be constructed ready for use. This means it is wired and tested, transportable, and can be docked to an existing network. It is clear that he has installed the appropriate converters to provide the required supply voltage. Later, a customer is to assemble his power plant size from the container modules according to his wishes. Currently, it is planned to provide the following service packages:

62.5 kW in a 10 foot = (¼) container
125 kW in a 20 foot = (½) container
250 kW in a 40 feet container

For example, a one megawatt power plant can be assembled from four 40-foot containers.

Cost effective in any location

A question that may surprise them. Is it possible to build a power plant without using up land? The answer is yes. There are many buildings, often old factories, that are empty. Think of a planned construction site that can still be expanded to include a basement.

Everywhere you can use space without wasting valuable area. For example, a solar power plant with one megawatt of capacity requires about 1 hectare of land, or 10,000 square meters, and is highly inefficient and not base-load capable.

The silver bullet is undoubtedly to use suitable vacant buildings. Because the building is already there. If the building is in good condition, the investment is low. Another very big advantage is also offered by a new building. The connection to the network infrastructure is either already there, or in the immediate vicinity. Imagine they build a solar power plant in a geological location five kilometers from an existing grid connection.

According to the site https://www.netzentwicklungsplan.de/, one kilometer of overhead line costs around €1.5 million. In the case of an underground cable, the figure is as much as around €4 million. With five kilometers of supply line, this alone amounts to at least €7.5 million, which is de facto saved with our concept. Pipeline construction often involves legal disputes that can delay construction for years.

Configure - order - deliver - connect - switch on

We don’t want to waste your time or ours. This means that the process from delivery to commissioning is made as simple as possible. For you, our approach eliminates much of the planning work that conventional power plants cause.

Once you have configured and ordered your power plant together with us, you will receive the containers on the agreed date.

To ensure that the power plant construction with commissioning works quickly, your architects have already received all data about the containers and their technology from BULLENERGY in advance. The planners thus had sufficient time to architecturally create the appropriate conditions for the installation of the BULLENERGY power plant. Let’s assume they are planning a power plant with a megawatt capacity. On the day of delivery visit four trucks, each with a 40-foot container. The trucks drive to the installation site, where they are unloaded by a crane and the containers are installed. Then these power plant units are connected and run in test mode.

Once everything is done, the connection to the network and the commissioning take place. You now have a baseload power plant. Something that wind turbines and solar panels don’t give you. And that’s where you save big again. You don’t need multiple identical turbines to net the rated power, as you do with solar and wind. They do not require storage with the aim of bridging wind lulls and lack of solar radiation. No, you use the same advantage that gas, coal, oil and nuclear power plants offer – only without their harmful side effects. It is self-evident that you produce electricity cheaply under these conditions – if only because you avoid high investment costs.
